The Decision That Matters

Overt, covert and forensic

Security features fall into three layers, and a serious program uses more than one. Overt features are visible to anyone and let a front-line member of staff check a card in a second — holograms, colour-shifting ink, embossing. Covert features need a tool to verify: UV inks, microprinting, hidden patterning. Forensic features are verifiable only in a laboratory and exist for disputes and prosecutions.

A card with only overt features is easy to check and easy to imitate convincingly. A card with only covert features cannot be checked at a door. The mix is the design decision.

TAWY also manages the full service workflow — artwork, feature selection, compliance review and production management. See our security printing services.
